"...deconstructed vintage reprobates and swingers, all mid-century seersucker and clandestine hanky-panky, rendered in stunning acrylics by this hotshot with a brush and a brain." - Wayne Allen Brenner, The Austin Chronicle

On Saturday, February 4, 2012, Wally Workman Gallery will open its second solo show with Austin painter Ian Shults. Taunting the societal taboos of sexuality and inebriation with bold brushstrokes and sly editing skills, Ian prompts viewers to bring their own repressed desires and dreams to the work. Each piece is broken up by planes and layers of paint, causing an asymmetry that serves to break up the painting's space as well as the layers of time captured. This show, filled with lust, loss and libations, conveys a sense of unabashed mischief not to be missed.
