In Concert for Marathon Kids

Join two of Texas' treasured singer-songwriters, Shawn Colvin and Lyle Lovett, live at Austin's historic Paramount Theatre. This is a special concert to benefit Marathon Kids, supporting our mission to provide free running/walking, nutrition and schoolyard gardening programs for over 250,000 Texas children!

As a storyteller, Shawn Colvin is both keen and warm-hearted, leavening even the toughest tales with tenderness, empathy, and a searing sense of humor. In the 19 years since the release of her debut album, Colvin has created a remarkable cannon of work, won three Grammy Awards, released eight albums, and maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule. In an era when female singer-songwriters are ever more ubiquitous, Shawn Colvin stands out as a singular and enduring talent.

For nearly three decades, Lyle Lovett has defined the modern Texas singer-songwriter. Fusing elements of the blues, country, folk, gospel and jazz, four-time Grammy winner Lovett—in a career that spans 14 albums and more than four million records sold—has created his own style of Americana. His music intersects an array of genres with a unique gift for storytelling that has become synonymous with the artist, as evidenced by such revered albums as Lyle Lovett, Pontiac, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, Joshua Judges Ruth, The Road To Ensenada and 2007’s It’s Not Big It’s Large. In concert, Lyle Lovett’s stories and songs are a powerful reminder that he possesses one of the most distinctive voices in music.

Marathon Kids is a free, six month, running/walking/nutrition and gardening program for K-5th graders who are most vulnerable to type 2 diabetes and sedentary lifestyles. We build joyful community around children and are quickly accepted into public, private and home schools as a free, innovative celebratory fitness program, resonating with the child...and with the child's family. The child develops the love and habit of moving through space and carries forward the power of muscular, nutritional and psychological well being.
