All actors struggle with auditioning. How can we land a role if the auditioner never sees what we are really capable of? The key to a great audition is preparation, a usable technique, and having a sense of what we are projecting to the person evaluating us. My Audition Technique class will give you the tools and confidence to do your very best at every audition. Now, does that mean you will always be cast? Of course not. The truth is we are not "right" for every part we desire. However, my hope is that my students will always leave an audition knowing that they were well-prepared and did their very best.

This will be a 6 week professional technique class. All students will start by purchasing and reading Michael Shurtlff's book Audition before the first day. We will begin by examining and working the principles of the technique through in-class exercises . After that, students will be expected to procure, memorize, stage and perform scenes, monologues, or songs that are either being worked on for an audition or which have been chosen from a list of approved authors, which I will distribute. If students are unprepared they will not be allowed to perform, but may sit in on the class to learn from the work of others. I will work with each actor on his or her piece, in turn, using Shurtleff's principles to help the actor to infuse it with new life and dimension. This class should be an opportunity to dust off material you've never been happy with but know has potential, to explore new work you have not yet dared to perform, or to simply get more comfortable in your own skin as you work in front of of your peers. Though this has been a serious description, this class is also going to be fun and exciting. My teaching style is extremely positive, and I really believe students learn more from laughter than tears. Let's make some great work together. See you on Saturday mornings!

    About the instructor...

Meg Peck is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she earned her BFA in Theater studying the acting techniques of Stella Adler, Stanford Meisner, Jerzy Grotowski and others. In the decade or so since, Meg has been a working actress and stand up comic in Los Angeles, studying at the Groundlings, performing at the world famous Comedy Store, auditioning for and working in commercials, film, and television and continuing her audition/acting training with Tom Todoroff. It is in Tom's class that Meg first fell in love with Michael Shurtleff's book Audition and the straight forward acting technique contained within it. Meg has since relocated to Austin where she most recently performed in this Summer's Zilker Park Production of Footloose. Meg has coached fellow actors for years and taught improvisation technique many times over.
