The Texas Heritage Trails Program (THTP) is the Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) award winning regional heritage tourism initiative which encourages communities, heritage regions, and the state to partner and promote Texas’s historic and cultural resources. These successful local preservation efforts, combined with statewide marketing of heritage regions as tourism destinations, increase visitation to cultural and historic sites and bring more dollars to Texas communities.
Now in its fourteenth year of operation, the THTP has demonstrated steady growth, enthusiastic private and public support, and a record of achievement. Through the work of the THTP, ten independent, nonprofit heritage trail regions have been established across the state geographically based around 10 scenic driving trails. These trails serve as the nucleus of 10 heritage regions, and include heritage tourism attractions and communities both on and off the trail.
Presenter: Teresa Caldwell is State Coordinator for the Texas Heritage Trails Program at the Texas Historical Commission where she oversees program development, marketing, and product development of this award-winning heritage tourism initiative. Ms. Caldwell speaks statewide on heritage tourism and participates as a tourism specialist for various agencies and programs, including Office of the Governor- Economic Development and Tourism, Texas Heritage Trails, Texas Main Street, and Visionaries in Preservation.
