A rare opportunity to experience one of the last great works of Gioachino Rossini will be offered by Chorus Austin as its 120-voice Austin Civic Chorus opens its 47th season with the composer’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Performances, under the direction of Chorus Austin Artistic Director Ryan Heller, will be 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, 7050 Village Center Dr., and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 8134 Mesa Dr. Soloists are Mela Dailey, soprano; Kathryn Findlen, mezzo-soprano; Nicholas Simpson, tenor; and Bruce Cain, baritone. Tickets, at $20 general admission and $15 for seniors and students, may be purchased online at www.chorusaustin.org, at the door or by contacting the Chorus Austin business office at (512) 719-3300.
