Dance Umbrella will present its annual showcase of new works by local and Texas artists in 10 Minutes Max. This year’s event will be held at AustinVentures StudioTheater, 501 West 3rd Street. Local and regional artists will share the AustinVentures stage for ONE NIGHT ONLY! Saturday, September 24 at 8:00 PM.
This years 10 MINUTES MAX will feature the work of Austin newcomer Charles O Anderson, as well as the work of Olivia Chacón and Flamencuera, Aileen Mapes,
Sumana Mandala and Stage Sanchaar, Crawford resident L. Brooke Schlecte, and Austin’s own Verge Dance Co. There is always something for everyone at 10 Minutes Max.
From solos to groups, contemporary flamenco to afro-fusion and Bharatanatyam to club modern, this year’s lineup reflects a diverse palette of forms and viewpoints. Pieces drawn from Langston Hughes’ poetry, or inspired by James Baldwin’s “Another Country” will share the stage with works that humorously investigate the relationship of man, media and employment or purely represent a simple prayer of hope for healing.
Started in 1989 as Performance Plus, 10 MINUTES MAX continues to serve as a platform for artists new to Austin as a place to introduce their work, as well as providing a platform for emerging choreographers and artists to showcase their first public presentations and established artists to tryout new ideas.
10 MINUTES MAX has always been known as a forum where artists can present interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary ideas. Where dancers explore theatre, theatre artists explore movement, and musicians explore both. And like its title, all pieces are no more than 10 MINUTES!
