Soubrette Productions is proud to present the Tony Award winning musical..."The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin, directed by Philip Olson

Due to mature nature of some comedic elements, we recommend this show to anyone 13 years or older.

Come participate in this fast-paced, wacky musical comedy! Laugh til you hurt as 6 eccentric children compete for the title of Putnam County Spelling Bee Champion! There will plenty of spelling, as well as tap-dancing, sock-puppets, free juice-boxes, and even a cameo appearance from Jesus Christ!   Want to really get into the action? There will also be a voluntary audience participation element, in which a select few audience members will receive the chance to compete in the Bee! Victory and eternal glory await!

The cast includes: Derek Jones, Kylie Baker, Glenn Bagley, Brian Lasoya, Oliva Frierson, Audrey Johnson, Amy Chang, Aaron Glover, and Julia Lorenz-Olson

A portion of the proceeds from this production will benefit Tapestry Dance Studios and Center Stage Texas.

      Soubrette Productions has done an excellent job with their debut show The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! This show was so much fun to see! Each spelling bee contestant is so unique that you just can’t wait to see what he or she will do next. The songs are fun, funny, and let you get to know each of the characters. It’s a little strange at first seeing adults playing children, but it also adds to the hilarity of it and they do a wonderful job. This is definitely fun for everyone, although there is one song you might not want your children hearing: "My Unfortunate Erection." It comes right after intermission, so you could sneak your kids back in once it’s over, although it is a hilarious song that you probably don’t want to miss. Another entertaining aspect of this show is that audience members can participate (voluntarily and you have to sign up before the show begins) in the spelling bee! I highly recommend that you go see this show because it is just too much fun to miss! Collapse

      This is a great choice for a first production by the new theater company, Soubrette Productions. It is very funny, quirky, and often touching. This production is thoroughly enjoyable and full of energy. The actors sing beautifully and have great comedic timing. I especially enjoyed Audrey Davis in the typical male part of Leaf, Brian Losoya, and Kylie Baker; however, I could go on and list them all as they are that equal. They move and sing well together and embody their characters. The band led by David Blackburn is great. The set, costumes, and lighting all add to the feel of the show. The Boyd Vance Theater is a very comfortable venue with great sound and good site lines. I highly recommend this show and am looking forward to more productions by this new company. Congratulations.       Pros: Very funny and fun for the whole family. Cons: Not a very energetic crowd. Unexpected: You can participate in the spelling bee! So, if you haven't seen, or heard of, the 25th Annual Putnam... Expand

      Pros: Very funny and fun for the whole family. Cons: Not a very energetic crowd. Unexpected: You can participate in the spelling bee! So, if you haven't seen, or heard of, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, you owe it to yourself to find this theater and watch this truly hilarious show. That being said, I did say you would have to find it. Not that the theater is particularly difficult to get to, but that it's just not a well known theater and, as such, the audience I saw the show with was rather small and therefore kind of flat. However, this show truly makes for a magnificent find and will have you laughing with every song. And, if you have a little one, they can go onstage and participate in the spelling bee as the actors dance and sing around them!! Bring the whole family and SEE THIS SHOW, though you may consider holding the little ones out of the theater for the first song after intermission: 'my unfortunate erection.' That said, it's a lovely show, SO GO SEE IT!!! :-) Collapse

      Soubrette Production's inaugural production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was phenomenal. Every aspect of the show was topnotch. The cast was marvelous - each actor wowed me with their vocal prowess. It is a production that I could see over and over again and I guarantee that you will too. Collapse
