Join The Baron's Men for Shakespeare's tale of the King set on conquering France and the people who oppose or support him. The Baron’s Men is a small theater troupe dedicated to the research and performance of historical theater with our primary focus of the plays of the Elizabethan era. Since 1998, The Baron’s Men has been striving to prove that historical theater, performed using historical staging practices, is fun and relevant to modern audiences. The Baron’s Men is very fortunate to be allowed the use of The Curtain Theater, a replica Elizabethan theater, on the property of Mr. Richard Garriott in Austin, Texas.

This production showcases not just the dramatic moments you see in the movies (though these are done very well), but the humor that a lot of productions leave out. Combine that with an excellent troupe of actors, a beautiful setting, and an audience that plays along and you've got the best of Shakespeare's history in a whole new light.

After seeing Henry V as performed by The Baron's Men at the Curtain Theater, I don't think I want to see the movie any more. The cast and crew of this magnificent play by Shakespeare have outdone themselves. The setting, the only true outdoor Elizabethan theater in Austin, the acting and the story carry you away to England and France and bring you to that fateful St. Crispian's Day just outside Agincourt when a small band of English defeated an overwhelming French army. Okay, I just gave away the ending, but we all remember our history, don't we? Watch for a very funny exchange between Henry and Kate, you will laugh until your sides hurt. Henry, played by Brian Martin, is one of the best portrayals you will see. And Kate, portrayed by Eva McQuade, is perfect as the shy, yet lovely, Princess of France. The costuming is beyond what one would expect from a small troupe, thanks to Pam Martin's fabulous sewing and design team.

Nestled between a mansion and a haunted house in the hills off 2222 is the Curtain, Austin's own Elizabethan inspired theater. This was my first trek up there and I'm very glad I went! The audience arrives to be greeted by a jouster in full armor on top of a horse, how cool is that? The show has begun by the time you sit in your seat as actors roam the stage in their residence, their time. I was truly amazed by the show's production quality. The Baron's Men strive to produce historically accurate pieces and are precise right down to the music. All the costumes and some of the props are handmade and it's not uncommon to hear a harp playing between scenes. This show's committed acting made it enchanting to watch. And you might learn a thing or do about period costuming if you stick around to ask questions. Lovely show!

"Men of few words are the best men" is one of the memorable lines from Henry V. Odd that William Shakespeare, a man of words, would write such a statement. Hummm. The Baron's Men production of Shakespeare's Henry V is superb - great everything - great cast, crew, costumes, props, theatre . . . Ah, The Curtain Theatre! Methinks I had stepped into the 17th century Globe Theatre, with bench seating and all. My yoga mat folded in half made a fine cushion for my boyfriend and me. Be forewarned - it's BYOAB at The Curtain Theatre. They do sell sodas and water, but nary a drop of meade. Although everyone was outstanding, special shout-outs to O'Keefe as the Welshman Fluellen (Go Wales!), Stevens as Pistol of the arm gestures, Wright as the humorous dandy Dauphin, and Walls the fair. For a truly Shakespearean experience, make an evening of Henry V at The Curtain Theatre. Now is the time for such an event. Perfect weather. Go! Get thee to a show soon!

I was anxious to see the space at Curtain Theatre. It's quite impressive, a gorgeous Elizabethan theatre, an actor's dreamland. Henry gave us everything: Terrific direction, cast, acting, beautiful costumes, props and that extra touch that stuns you: The Space. It puts you there, right there in Bill's time and it's delicious. The only thing lacking would be audience members. This show deserves a full house every night. Artists die a little each night for the love of the stage, and this cast and crew are spot on. Go see Henry and I guarantee you'll be back for more from Baron's Men. No schlock, no pretense, no annoying reinterpretations. Just pure Shakespeare for us, the common man, in an informal, comfortable, common place, all enjoying extraordinary theatre.

I was able to see The Baron's Men preview performance of Henry V at The Curtain Theater and I loved it. The play includes stunning visuals, excellent acting, beautiful costumes and of course The Curtain Theater is the best venue in town for watching Shakespeare. Another part of the fun is interacting with the actors. They encourage you to boo the bad guys and cheer the heroes as was done in Shakespeare's time which was great fun. They also ask that you don't go too far, so don't heckle the actors or throw tomatoes at them. All in all it was a great show and I highly recommend it.
