Coming this October to the BLUE Theater is a new work by Austin Playwright and Director Lindsey Greer Sikes. Inspired by native-Texas indie-rock band Eisley’s “Room Noises”, Marvelous Things is a theatrical event which aims to challenge the traditional form of the play as well as the role of the audience, who are not only spectators but participants in the creation of a false reality—or as we more commonly call it, the theater.

We invite you to meet Winnie: a young woman full of life and always in awe of it. But as her wedding day approaches she becomes unable to distinguish the world in which she is living from the marvelous things she imagines. And as the consequences of lives around her quickly unravel, so the creatures of her mind come alive from within the world of the audience and take to the stage. Presumably, Winnie remains safe in the delusions of her imagination, until a spine-tingling series of final events forces her to confront delusion, reality, and ultimately: theatrical reality.

Written and Directed by Lindsey Greer Sikes. Orginal Music Composed by Paul Marbach. Starring: Rachel Weise, Nathan Brockett, Sara Harless, Stephen Mercantel, Emily Kennedy, Brett Hamman, Bastion Carboni, Heather Diamond, Jonathon Itchon, Vanessa Marie, Solveij Praxis and Georgia Young.

      I enjoyed this play! The music and its execution were absolutely gorgeous and completely transported me to the Humming Woods; this play is made truly marvelous by the ethereal sounds and vibrating... Expand

      I enjoyed this play! The music and its execution were absolutely gorgeous and completely transported me to the Humming Woods; this play is made truly marvelous by the ethereal sounds and vibrating harmonies of the singers and cellist. The acting was fantastic, and there was so much chemistry between characters. I cared about all of them. I felt that the length of the play diluted its potency and I almost felt satisfied with the story ending at intermission. I think this was caused by dragging story-telling scenes out so long that I forgot why I was there or what was trying to be conveyed to me, and that there was too much emphasis on Winnie's "world". Other parts of the play beautifully utilized subtlety and I was blown away by the way some things were revealed. I think with some editing, this play could be a stellar 5-star experience you'll never forget. Collapse

      This was a thought provoking and engaging play. The actors were fantastic, especially Winnie (Rachel Wiese) and Hunter (Nathan Brockett). The story felt a little disingenuous and I didn't like the attention to theatrical reality; I studied theatre, I get it, thanks. But overall it was touching and the music was lovely. I wish there had been more music and fewer projections. I also appreciated the use of space in the blue and Wiese's movement. Good job to newcomer Lindsey Sikes, keep working! Oh and the production on Sunday was 2 hrs 30, so I don't know about that 3:10 business. Collapse

      Clocking in at 3 hours 10 minutes, the show is indeed in need of some editing. What worked: There is definitely a play in there somewhere trying to get out. Performances of main characters were great, especially Sara Harless. Musical underscoring was interesting. What didn't work: Staging was weird. Sometimes the actors sat in seats to watch the show and other times the seats were empty. The main female character seemed one dimensional so I couldn't care for her issues. The mechanicals were mostly a distraction or I just didn't get it. Finally: Kudos to new work efforts like this. I commend the company for its dedication. Here's to the risk takers. Keep working on this piece and bring your scissors. Collapse
