No one can deny that Ed Gein is America’s most beloved murderer. It seems like over half of the 20th century’s most enduring horror films are based on his true life adventures, from PSYCHO to TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE to MOTEL HELL, and many more. Gein’s unique lady-based diet/wardrobe have made him an eternal schizoid icon. And of the endless impressive portrayals of the lovable ol’ nut, a Gold Medal Award goes to the recently departed Roberts Blossom in the most historically accurate film in the Geinsploitation canon: DERANGED a.k.a. CONFESSIONS OF A NECROPHILE! Blossom’s performance is nothing short of otherworldly, as he spoon-feeds his dead mother, wears his neighbors’ faces, and pontificates on the subtle art of romance: “I can trust her...she’s FAT!!” With freshman gore effects by Tom Savini and a truly jolting ending, this blazing journey through a legendary madman’s noodle decimates all competition! Hell, I’ll prove it...I’m gonna grab a shovel and start digging. When a new horror movie comes out that’s even half as good as this one, I bet I’ll be ten feet past China.
