Death to Dollars Exhibition
October 7-November 13, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Presented in conjunction with Mexic-Arte Museum’s annual Viva la Vida Fest, Death to Dollars both honors Day of the Dead celebrations and investigates how the holiday’s traditional folkloric and religious iconography has been commercialized. While the holiday’s increased presence in mass media and global commercial culture may represent a step away from its roots, this move has also created new spaces for public art, community organizing and the advancement of educational, political and economic goals. In addition to a display of 21st century decorative art and design, the exhibition will include traditional and artistic Day of the Dead altars in the rear gallery.
