Add Review/Comment
BAT CITY USA delves into Austin's complicated relationship with a colony of Mexican Free-tailed bats and the man who fought to preserve them, Merlin Tuttle, founder of Bat Conservation International. Each year, thousands of tourists and locals get a close-up glimpse of the world's largest urban bat colony under the Congress Avenue Bridge in downtown Austin. The film reveals how the bats moved into the bridge and survived eradication plans by hostile residents in the 1980s. Viewers discover how Tuttle upended fear and transformed the bats into beloved cultural icons and a key part of what makes Austin unique and weird.
