Their infectiously danceable, funky soul based on the sounds of Memphis, Motown and Philadelphia have made Average White Band (AWB) one of the best selling soul and funk bands in the history of music. The Scottish group stormed onto the US charts in 1974 with the million selling #1 album, Average White Band (The White Album), including the #1 single ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ – that single remains one of the most widely recognized funk grooves today, frequently covered by hip-hop artists and featured on television. The group’s follow-on album Cut the Cake proved just as successful, with the title track hitting #1, while their 1975 album, Person to Person, remains among the best selling live funk albums ever. With multiple Grammy wins and Platinum selling hits, AWB continues to record and tour, laying down their hip R&B grooves on sellout audiences worldwide.
