Iranian filmmaker-in-exile, Abbas Kiarostami, has created a haunting film about a French woman living in Tuscany with her young son. After meeting a British author at his lecture, she spends the day with him in the village of Lucignano – looking at art and copies of masterpieces, drinking wine, walking, and eventually shifting into the roles of husband and wife. The transition is so deftly accomplished that we are left wondering if they are truly a couple married for 15 years or strangers, certified copies, of such a couple. This is not the power shift of Bergman’s PERSONA, but is an amazing film about identity and relations.

      Much of what I saw for the film Certified Copy left me wondering what is the relationship of these two characters. One is left to believe in the beginning of the film that they are complete strangers... Expand

      Much of what I saw for the film Certified Copy left me wondering what is the relationship of these two characters. One is left to believe in the beginning of the film that they are complete strangers that meet at a book signing. As time goes by the audience is given more and more clues that these people either know each other and are married or doing well hell of a good job of being in some fantasy role playing game. The movie comes to an abrupt end which leaves this audience member wondering what has happened. Part of my loving of this film is the region it is filmed at. Tuscany, who could not love it. The acting is pretty good. It deals with relationships and even if you have not ever had one you know what not having one is like. The movie is worth a view as long as you know you are just going to see a piece of life and not have anything truly answered. Enjoy. Collapse

      I've never seen a movie quite like this one before. The style makes it very engaging and the characters are complex and genuinely human. A unique and unforgettable film.
