THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED. The Austin premier of Douglas Carter Beane’s hilarious Broadway comedy. Under the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, where big stars do anything for fame, come the adventures of Mitchell Green, a rising star who could hit it big if it weren't for one teensy-weensy problem. His agent, the devilish Diane, can't seem to keep him in the closet and is doing all she can to keep him away from the cute rent boy who's caught his eye and the rent boy's girlfriend (wait, the rent boy has a girlfriend?). Will there be a happy ending as the final credits roll? The comedy stars Victor Trevino and Michelle Cheney and features Micah Sudduth and Keylee Koop. Directed by Andy Berkovsky and Bridget Farias.

A bitter-sweet comedy designed to not just entertain, but to provoke thought as well. Well performed - the City Theater has another winner! Well worth seeing.

The Little Dog Laughed is playing at the City Theatre until July 3! You must go see this play. Not only is it intelligent and funny but it's very well cast and produced. It's also very different than a lot of plays because of the subject matter. The City Theatre always puts on fine work and this play is just another example of that. Take a secretly gay actor, his manipulative agent, a straight(ish) call boy and his annoying girlfriend and you have a mess that makes no more sense in the end than it did in the beginning. And I loved it. The actors were quick, the humor and relationships in the play felt really natural. Good work by the two male leads, their scenes together were heartfelt. Great performances by the two female actresses as well. Fully equipped with a full house on Thursday evening, opening night, it was a wonderful show. I highly recommend it.

I expected to laugh, which I did..A LOT! I didn't intend on having such poignant messages of truth and trust snuck in on me along the way. Theatre...who'd a thought?? With outstanding performances by Michelle Cheney, Vic Trevino, Micah Sudduth and Keylee Koop and clean, well-thought out direction from Andy Berkovsky and Bridget Farias, Lil Dog was a bulls-eye for me. You won't get any better summer theatre in Austin!

A clever show, vividly acted by a great
cast, The Little Dog Laughed is well worth
seeing. Funny, poignant, charming, and at
times, tragic.

I only recently discovered the City Theatre, but I have been consistently very impressed with the work they put on. This company takes the flash and fanfare out of theatre and replaces it with real, powerful, and heartfelt acting, proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with. The Little Dog Laughed is no exception--an incredible script, cast with four charismatic and talented actors, mixed together by the dynamic directing team of Andy Berkovsky and Bridget Farias. The sharp, witty humor and spot on comedic timing of the actors is riveting and refreshing. Stack on a moving message and some unexpected twists and you have yourself an excellent night of theatre you won't soon forget. Don't miss it!

This show turned out to be quite serious and not a laughed filled satire. Yes, there were funny lines, such as the one one about the actor having a "reoccurring case of homosexuality", but it was more soap opera, social commentary than expected. It involves what happens as a result of deception. Vic Trevino and Micah Sudduth gave heartfelt performances as two men who have not dealt with their sexuality. Their nervousness, hesitant eyes, and stammers were well done as were the pure joy of happiness on their faces. Michelle Cheney protrayed the driven, ambitious agent to the hilt. The fourth character was not sympathetic at first, but Kaylee Koop gave her depth and feeling. The director kept the momentum brisk with short scenes and monologues. This play about hypocrisy, self-deception, and deception is unexpected in many ways and the resolution may not be what is desired.

I expected the show to be funny. I did not expect it to be so poignant as well. The show is perfectly cast and well-staged. Michelle Cheney is a sparkling delight as the self-centered, cut-throat agent who guides us through the story. Victor Trevino gives an honest and riveting performance as the hunky leading man in denial of his true sexuality. Micah Sudduth (as the "rent boy") and Keylee Koop (as the rent boy's girlfriend) are spot-on in their performances, as well. Kudos to Andy Berkovsky and Bridget Farias for bringing this fresh and timely play to Austin.

First and foremost I want to thank City Theatre for putting on a show that does go a bit off the road of safe and traditional shows but not throw stuff in your face that might be overwhelming. The shows content and language are not for the little kiddies but the combined directing giants of Andy Berkovsky and Bridget Farias are can't miss or mess up talents. The story in a brief bit is the lives we lead, the truth of what we think but don't always say and the result of our actions in a society that has only evolved as far as those around you say it has. The script is very edgy but with heart which I did not know would happen. The acting is top notch. Michelle Cheney has this gift of being a likable devil on stage that is so unmatched in the area. Her Diane was such a treat to see every second she was on stage. Victor Trevino, Michah Sudduth and Keylee Koop all brought their characters to life and were very spot on. I was never sleepy for a moment with this can't miss show. Not to miss.
