On Saturday, June 4th, Wally Workman Gallery opens a two-person show with Angela Fife and Marybeth Karaus. Both experienced oil painters, their works are characterized by confident, bold brushstrokes. Angela Fife received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Utah in 1996. Her still life and figure paintings contain a unique personality brought to life through quirky composition and decisive brushwork. She lives and works in Kaysville, Utah. Marybeth Karaus is a graduate of the respected DAAP program of the University of Cincinnati, but her artistic training began years before any formal study. As the daughter of a passionate artist, she was raised with an intrinsic appreciation and understanding of art. A devotee to plein air school of artistic thinking, Karaus first began her career as an artist in watercolors, a form she was drawn to from the teachings of Robert James Foose of the University of Kentucky. She lives and works in Cincinnati, Ohio. This show will concentrate on manipulation of paint, using thick and thin paint, varied brushstrokes, large and small brush sizes, and a palette knife to bring forth an image with a strength of feeling.
