The Grand Theory Of EVERYTHING BETWEEN, A Movement Index of Light, Sound, and ALIENS is a dynamic multi-media concert of dance, theater, visual design, and LIVE music inspired by the mysteries of the universe and the things unseen. The radical music experimentations of Peter Stopschinski range from indie classical to rock, electronic, jazz and hip hop. The five-piece band comprised of piano, guitar, cello, bass, and percussion includes Peter with some of Austin’s most talented musicians. Production design by Natalie George and K. Eliot Haynes employs light, shadow, texture and digital imagery to bring the elements of our universe’s unknowns into the work through illumination and illusion. Ariel’s choreography, created in collaboration with the ensemble, ripples from sublime beauty to absurd and comical imaginings that draw from science fiction, parallel universes, black holes, string theory, time travel, the power of words, and aliens.

      Overall, the show left me wanting more. I enjoyed the movement of the dances and progression of the performance; however, there were too many things to focus on that I feel like some of the... Expand

      Overall, the show left me wanting more. I enjoyed the movement of the dances and progression of the performance; however, there were too many things to focus on that I feel like some of the content was lost. Though I appreciated the individual choreography, I personally would have preferred to see each dancer highlighted on his or her own rather than simultaneously. Watching multiple choreography made it difficult to understand the story and feel the intimacy of the small theater. Furthermore, I would have liked to have seen the choreography utilize the costumes more often, since the white outfits seemed to have been designed for that specific purpose. The music was very innovative, especially when creating unique sounds such as the bow on the cymbal. The lighting was terrific and engaging as well. Collapse

      I took my mom to see this show and we were both pleasantly perplexed as we walked to our car after it had ended. We spent a good 15 minutes on the drive home both explaining to each other how we interpreted the story. The choreography was excellent, the costumes were simple yet purposeful, the lighting was vibrant, and the music was phenomenal. It was beautiful watching how the dancers all moved- sharp when needed and elegant when appropriate. The performance truly takes endurance and the dancers’ spirits never waned. Through the slower parts and the more rigorous routines, their facial expressions were engaging. If you’re looking for something different to see, or if you typically enjoy a more interpretive, modern show this should be high on your to watch list. And after the show, I hope that you will find yourself pleasantly perplexed as you contemplate the meaning of “The Grand Theory of Everything Between.” It certainly makes for great conversation.       Hurry to the Off Center and see this Austin Treasure. One of the most imaginative pieces I have seen. Marvelous live original music, amazing costumes by Kari Perkins, and a dance company so dedicated and focused that you can't help but scream at the end in approval. It is beautifully conceived from the amazing lighting and video design to the orchestrations. Congrats to Andrea Ariel who really puts her company through their paces and it is all worth every minute of preparation they went through. And just when you have seen every possible new shape displayed, suddenly the entire wall of white disappears into the background. And then the fun really begins when the anamorphic shapes crawl onto the stage for more magic. What a fun evening it was. Go see it. Support this wonderful company Collapse
