What can I say about the beauty of Disney's Beauty and The Beast that has not been well said by other reviewers?
In a word: GO! Get your family, friends, lovers, and GO enjoy this musical soon.. it is only here a few more nights.
Go experience the magic and joyous fun of this ageless love story brought to Austin for your pleasure by a VERY talented company of players. I was really amazed by: the originality of the sets, the bright, colorful, fun, sometimes sexy, and sometimes outlandish costumes, and the singing of the familiar songs- well done by all. The sudden explosion of confetti shot over and into the audience was just another Disney touch that delighted both the kids and the adults. I am not sure HOW the Beast was transformed before our eyes into the Prince-- but it was fun to watch. The show received a well deserved standing ovation and we left with a glow in our hearts.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a great adaptation of the animated movie, with a few changes and additions. There are several new songs that I had never heard before, but I still really enjoyed....

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a great adaptation of the animated movie, with a few changes and additions. There are several new songs that I had never heard before, but I still really enjoyed. There were also huge dance numbers that pleasantly reminded me that this is a Broadway show. Overall, the performance seemed almost sillier than the movie, which worked well. It had wonderful comedic moments and the frightening scenes were dramatic but shouldn’t scare younger audience members. Highlights for me were seeing the synchronized mug clinking dance sequence during the song Gaston, the wonderful, vibrant costumes, and getting to see how they staged things like the wolves attacking in the forest and the dancing plates and silverware. Drawbacks were that the orchestra seemed to overpower the singers at times and if you sit near the aisle you miss some important actions taking place on the side of the stage. If possible, get center seats! Overall, a great show, see it before it’s gone!

Just like all the little girls dressed up as Belle, I was ready to watch this childhood favorite come alive at Bass Concert Hall. The "tale as old as time" was beautifully delivered by this great cast. I was particularly impressed with Belle's singing, and the Beast's strong but gentle demeanor. The actor played the aggression as well as the comedy really well. Broadway shows are a real treat in this city. The elaborate scenery and costumes were woven well into the story. The use of puppetry was a highlight for me, I didn't expect this style to be used. I loved the translation of Lumiere, Clocksworth, Mrs. Potts and Chip onto the stage. Their costumes were my favorite by far. It's an enchanting experience for anyone who loves theatre, Disney or both.

Even if you have seen “B&B” previously, don’t miss this all new production. The scenery, set pieces, lighting and special effects are intricate and colorful . . . the costumes, gorgeous . . . and the choreography and staging are precise and eye-catching. I particularly enjoyed the beer stein dance, which included rhythmic-tapping. The creative special elements, like the full-sized, white puppet wolves are beautiful and scary at the same time. // The cast members in a show of this high caliber are, as one would expect, are extremely talented, and to most any audience member’s eye, a near flawlessly-performing team. // Patrons will be drawn to different characters for different reasons, but I found highly amusing the bevy of beauties that fawned over Gaston. // Many of the little girls in the audience, who arrived in their favorite princess dresses, were truly awed. But I sincerely believe this extravagant show will delight avid theatre-goers and first-timers of all ages.

If you and the kids saw the Disney Channel’s “B&B: The Enchanted” Wed. night and liked it even slightly, then head for Bass Hall. Any one of six remaining LIVE shows through Sunday will likely blow you away with its delightful high-energy re-telling of this charming old-world folktale. The songs are memorable. Stanley Meyer’s terrific sets, Natasha Katz’ lighting and Ann Hould-Ward’s costume designs, mesmerizing. The 11-piece orchestra sounds like 35. Adults will find their own share of eye-and-ear-delighting entertainment. // The cute brunette in front of me explained she didn’t need a booster seat: “I’m four years old now.” But she strained to see the action throughout until finally lifted high into her father’s arms as the standing ovation obscured everything for the tiny patron. I’m not sure if Daddy, at that moment, was her boastful “Gaston,” her enchanted dancing Lumiere, her tolerable beast, or her own charming prince. But I do know it was a bonding moment that neither will forget.

A tale as old as time. True Beauty and the Beast is a story that has been told before and again. Yet it works on so many levels for kids of different ages. Bass Concert Hall was the perfect spot for production with its good use of back drop and lighting that most theatres would have been able to manage but not on such a grand scale. The costumes and changeable set pieces brought you into the magical land with ease. All the songs I had heard before and for the most part these were sung right on cue. Emily Behny was wonderful as Belle and Dane Agostinis as Beast was exciting to watch with his great timing and character change as story plays. Logan Denninghoff as Gaston sure looked the part and with ever beaten up sidekick Lefou played well by Andrew Kruep the moments not dealing with Belle, Beast and Beasts servants. Mrs. Potts, Julia Hosack, provides charming sound with her acting and singing along with son Chip. Lumiere and Cogsworth, Michael Haller and James May, brilliant in a word.

Opening night of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at UT’s PAC was a delightful success. Parents of little girls dressed in their best Belle gowns, couples young and old – all enjoyed seeing the much-loved story come to life. The sets and costuming are absolutely gorgeous and the puppetry by Basil Twist is so life-like. Understudy Jeff Brooks was perfectly cast as Gaston – flexing his muscles for the town girls to swoon over. As in the Disney movie, Lumiere steals the show, and Michael Haller played the part to perfection. Get ready for a show-stopping number with Be Our Guest – an over-the-top dance number that brings to mind the Golden Age of Busby Berkeley. Dancing plates and flatware fill the stage as champagne streamers shoot out into the audience – causing the theater to erupt in applause. The climactic transformation of the Beast into the prince is an interesting one – see if you can figure it out. But don’t wait long – B&B is here only for a short time – so come and Be Our Guest!

Pros: A fantastic performance with amazing actors, songs, comedic moments, and even some good choreography; Cons: Sound needed better balancing, obstructed views for important scenes; Unexpected: awesome visual effects; For the cons, I have to say most of them are related to where my seat was (up front way on the side), but for the price you pay you'd expect a better experience. The actors were slightly drowned out by the orchestra and the set, while highly ornate and beautiful, often had many doo-dads that tended to get in the way of the scenes. I would be more forgiving if action was going on center stage and all I missed was little things off to the side, but MAJOR scenes took place on the sides or bottom of the stage, often hidden by the wall or the ornate screen placed in front of the actors, with NOTHING going on center stage. My suggestion: sit further back away from the orchestra and IN THE MIDDLE and it will be a night to remember! (Belle's yellow ball dress is SUPER POOFY!!!)

Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" in
the movie theatre almost 20 years
ago. I loved it, as did the rest of
my family. I similarly enjoyed the
production that I saw at Bass
Concert Hall, particularly since it
was my first time to see it on
stage. The sets and costumes were
terrific, and the way the musical
brought the actions of the animated
movie into a stage setting
intrigued me. The performances were
all engaging. Logan Denninghoff
certainly looked the part of
Gaston, and his dramatic
performance was competent, though
his singing was not quite as full
and dramatic as I was hoping for.
Emily Behny's performance as Belle,
vocally and dramatically, was spot
on. Dane Agonistinis was menacing
and empathetic as needed in his
role as the Beast. The supporting
cast and chorus were similarly
enjoyable. I recommend this
charming production to audiences of
all ages, to discover or
rediscover.

Just like all the little girls dressed up as Belle, I was ready to watch this childhood favorite come alive at Bass Concert Hall. The "tale as old as time" was beautifully delivered by this great cast. I was particularly impressed with Belle's singing, and the Beast's strong but gentle demeanor. A tale as old as time. True Beauty and the Beast is a story that has been told before and again. Yet it works on so many levels for kids of different ages. Parents of little girls dressed in their best Belle gowns, couples young and old – all enjoyed seeing the much-loved story come to life.
