The SLANT 45 Community Heroes Art Exhibition will be on display at the Ground Floor Rotunda of the Texas State Capitol April 18-22. This vibrant display is a small sampling of the art received from the youth who participated in SLANT 45 – short for Service Learning Adventures in North Texas. The artwork represents the diverse experiences of the children who took up the challenge to improve their communities through a variety of innovative projects such as producing a school-wide health fair, teaching computer literacy classes to senior citizens and starting an anti-bullying program.

Between February and December 2010, more than 44,000 North Texas youth participated in close to a half-million hours of community service through SLANT 45, a program designed to inspire youth to become champions of community service. The SLANT 45 program was created in partnership with the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and Dallas-based nonprofit Big Thought. SLANT 45 is believed to be the largest youth education program in NFL history and one of the largest communitywide service-learning initiatives in U.S. history. More than 33 school districts, 12 counties and 53 cities are represented in the collection on display.

The exhibit, presented by Neiman Marcus and the Ted and Shannon Skokos Foundation, is sponsored at the State Capitol by Senator Florence Shapiro, Texas State Senate, District 8.
