Seeing the Baron's Men perform Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" in true (and beautiful) Shakespearean clothing, at a venue built just like the Globe Theater, is a magical experience. Although you will leave with an aching stomach from laughing so hard at all of the wit that William Shakespeare is infamous for and that the Baron's Men so wonderfully execute. Saturday night's performance of "Twelfth Night" was the perfect combination of venue, the beautiful Curtain Theatre on the shores of Lake Austin, and dedication in the gorgeous costuming and masterful performances by The Baron's Men. The show was rollicking great fun. If you haven't seen The Baron's Men perform you are missing out on the best of Shakespeare. This one will keep you in stitches especially in the second act. The live period music before the show and during intermission was wonderful and totally engaged the audience. The Bard at his very best. Don't miss it!

Never before had I seen The Baron's Men perform and I was thoroughly delighted with their rendition of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. There's never a dull moment thanks to how the actors bring this play to life through their expressiveness, antics, comical reactions, and overall excellent acting. Highlights for me included the beautiful location of The Curtain Theatre, getting to sing along with the musicians during intermission, and being brought to tears from laughing so hard by Malvolio in his yellow stockings. For first time audience members to The Curtain Theatre, I highly recommend reading "Your First Time?" on The Baron’s Men’s website. Finally, the only reason I did not give this wonderful play a full five stars is because every now and then the performers were difficult to hear (primarily the singers) and there were a few lines that were tripped over (perhaps opening night jitters?). However, these were minor as altogether I greatly enjoyed this show and I highly recommend it!

The cast has some surprises in store for you that will make tears run down your cheeks from laughing. Katrina O'Keefe is a gem in her portrayal of Viola/Cesario a difficult role because of the need for hiding her gender. Brian Martin is, well...spectacular as the drunken Sir Toby. And never has a man servant ever been as unbelievably funny as was Aaron Niemuth as Malvolio, you will have to see him in person to truly appreciate the skills he brings to the stage. Pros: Great Madrigal Feel, Wonderful Acting, A Beautiful Stage in an Enchanting Location, A Great Energy from the Cast and Audience Alike
Cons: No Sound System, Bugs and The Elements, Opening Night Jitters (Many Flubbed Lines)
Unexpected: Actual Music with Sing-a-Longs That Energized the Crowd
Whether looking for a place to wear that Renn Fair outfit between fairs or for an (almost) historically accurate rendition of "Twelfth Night," the Baron's Men proudly present one of Shakespeare's comedies in a way that is sure to make you laugh, clap, and even sing along while in a beautiful multi-level outdoor theater. Even the crowd themselves are an experience, energized by the performance.
However, the lack of a sound system can make the troupe difficult to hear from time to time, particularly when they sing. While this is more authentic, it also causes you to strain your ears more than once. Also, this theater is outside, so dress for the elements and wear bug spray.
Overall: Go See It!

The Baron's Men have done it again! I've been a fan since I first saw them do Taming of the Shrew a few years ago and Twelfth Night may be their funniest show yet. The lovers were wonderful, the drunkards and the jester were funny but one scene in particular stole the show. Who knew yellow stockings could be so funny? I've never heard so much laughter in play before. If you think Shakespeare is boring, this show will change your mind!

The Baron's Men did a fantastic job with
this production, particularly with the
integration of live music. I will definitely
be seeing more of them.

And if you think Shakespeare is too high-brow for
you, think again. The bawdy jokes are hilarious, and
the love story is heartwarming. Be prepared to
laugh very hard.
