For families and empty nesters, downtown professionals and business owners, high school and college students, a Community Block Party is being organized to bring people back together, harkening back to simpler times. The Shops at Mira Vista, one stop off MoPac on Bee Caves, will host experiences around Sprouts Farmers Market and the newly constructed Champions Westlake Gymnastics & Cheer, among others.

Block parties began during the First World War as a way to celebrate those on the block who had gone off to war. These parties gained popularity in the Seventies but in decades to follow and the invention of can’t-live-without technologies, the idea of neighbors coming together to promote their community started to fade away. The Shops at Mira Vista—along with the local and regional retailers who call the center home—will host the Community Block Party as a way to recapture neighborly connections. Austinites are invited to the afternoon block party on Saturday, April 2.

In an effort to invite nearby neighborhoods in for a friendly visit, retailers seek to revive some of the forgotten ideals of yesteryear. Besides bringing the community together to mingle and sample, The Shops at Mira Vista center aims to bring healthy living back into focus. With an array of healthy options—to keep customer’s bodies in tip-top shape, eating good-for-you foods, and looking amazing—those who crave a friendly, neighborhood shopping center can discover what this consolidated center provides.

On Saturday, April 2nd people can enjoy the offerings of community groups onsite amidst leisurely visits to each shop—sampling an array of food offerings, trying out a gymnastics class, or indulging in salon luxuries. Each retailer will showcase their unique presence through fun, participatory activities in- and out-side their storefronts. Some initial activities include:
    • Stroll through Sprouts Farmers Market. Stop to savor farm-fresh foods, demonstrations, and peruse the extensive selection of all natural vitamins, herbs, and supplements, all aimed to keep customers living healthy.
    • Tumble into the new, upgraded location of Champions Westlake Gymnastics & Cheer where the whole family can hop into mock classes. Popular classes for all ages will include gymnastics, cheer, and dance, which can be tested out under the closest of staff supervision.
    • Sidewalk chalk drawings throughout the center allow for creative minds to let loose and explore their artistic side.
    • Preen and pamper at Austin’s top ranked Keith Kristofer Salon & Spa with door prizes being given away every 30 minutes.
    • Shop and delight on wine as Perri Berri hosts a tranquil getaway for mothers.
    • Sports fans can take a load off and relax with the Missouri at Texas baseball game playing at 2 pm.

To aide in traveling through the center, participants can use a Shops at Mira Vista Passport. Separate children’s and adults’ Passports track each and every store visited. Up for grabs—to anyone who turns in a completed Passport—is a grand prize crafted from each shop’s creations. A Keith Kristofer Salon & Spa gift card along with one of Perri Berri’s specialty items are among the winnings in the grand prize, targeted to blow people away with the many things the center provides.

The Community Block Party not only provides a destination to mingle and shop but also a venue to perform. The Shops at Mira Vista invites school and community groups to take part in the Community Block Party. A number of groups—from Girl and Boy Scouts, to school organizations, to cheerleaders of all ages—have been asked to show off their talents and contributions to the community.
