Weird City Theatre Company announces the world premiere of Alvida & The Airship Pirates: A Steampunk Adventure! written & directed by WCT Artistic Director, John F. Carroll. When Alvida runs away from an arranged marriage, she joins forces with her notorious pirate uncle and comes to lead an airship of vicious swashbuckling steampunk pirates. Featuring the music of Seattle-based band, Abney Park, the cast includes WCT familiar faces Patti Neff-Tiven, Kevin Gouldthorpe, Robert Berry, Bethany Harbaugh, Emily Hampton, Chris Romani, Javier Smith and in her first performance with Weird City, BridgetFarias.

Weird City Theatre's mission is to encourage the growth of the artist and represent the uniqueness and vitality of Austin through re-envisioned classics and original works. Keeping a child-like sense of play, we focus on the process of the actor and we are playing our part to keep Austin weird!

Weird City Theatre is a sponsored project of the Greater Austin Creative Alliance, a nonprofit performing arts service organization.

    Thursday Nights are “Pay What You Wish” at the door. For all other performances, tickets are $15.00 for adults and $12.00 for children, seniors and students (with ID), and group rates are available.

      I knew nothing about this group or the steam punk movement but I thoroughly enjoyed the evening! The play is well written and executed. The pacing is as quick as its wit. The time went by so quickly... Expand

      I knew nothing about this group or the steam punk movement but I thoroughly enjoyed the evening! The play is well written and executed. The pacing is as quick as its wit. The time went by so quickly because of the suspension of disbelief that I experienced as I was completely enthralled by all the performances. I loved the naughty Prince! I would defintely recommend this play to all. It was so much fun! Collapse

      I am new to Steampunk, and so I studied up on it a bit before the play (and you might also want to Google for more information). It is very interesting to me that this alternative “movement” has been around since the 80’s. It was also coincidental that the art and videos in the Dougherty lobby were also Victorian and so consistent with the Steampunk theme. The costumes in the show were most impressive and I was pleased to discover that I fit in very well with the cast, since I was also wearing flat boots and leather. The sword fights onstage were terrific. The actresses portraying Alvida and Catherine delivered the strongest performances. The play runs about an hour and 15 minutes with one intermission. Collapse

      John F. Carroll's comedy encompasses the steampunk moment in his new play, Alvida and the Airship Pirates. The cast does an excellent job bringing to life this sci-fi world in both a comical and sexy way. Nods go to Kevin Goulthorpe for his performance as Dr. Wrinn and Robert Berry as the King and the Pirate Sylvester. Patti Neff-Tiven is at her best as the lead Alvida. You are missing out if you pass up Weird City's new show! Collapse
