South Asian New Year Festival

What a showdown of huge "South Asian New Year Festival" concluded at Zilker Park! It was as a picture perfect Spring day under the canopy of partial cloud cover, and the Zilker Hillside Theater was jam-packed with thousands of cheerful and colorful crowd. Zilker Park was abuzz with excitement as artists from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, China as well as America, performed musical and dance numbers in their colorful traditional garbs at the grand Zilker Hillside Theater stage beautifully decorated with eye catchy huge banners, custom built from Bangladesh.

A variety of food stalls offered authentic South Asian foods prepared on site like any local bazaar of the subcontinent. A number of City Council Members including Mayor Pro Tem Mike Martinez, dignitaries, representatives from local media, sponsors, organizations and community leaders attended this auspicious event and celebrated the grand South Asian New Year with us with great fun fare and style. A large number of vendors displayed a cornucopia of ethnic outfits, jewelry, henna and much more.

** Ethnic dresses, Jewelry, Crafts, Henna and much much more...

      Arrived at 1p (opened at 12n). Only two food booths. One was still setting up. The other had a very limited selection (pastries, samosas, honey-soaked dessert, etc); said curries wouldn't be... Expand

      Arrived at 1p (opened at 12n). Only two food booths. One was still setting up. The other had a very limited selection (pastries, samosas, honey-soaked dessert, etc); said curries wouldn't be available until 3. What was available was bland and overpriced. Communication was difficult. Collapse
