A tear-gatherer travels through the starkly beautiful salt marshes of northwestern Iran -- trying to help people feel absolved of their transgressions.
Part of Children of Abraham/Ibrahim 5: Films of the Middle East & Beyond:
For this 5th annual presentation of narrative and documentary films from the Middle East and North Africa, we travel to Turkey, Iran, Syria, Morocco, Egypt, Israel, and Lebanon. The settings range from breath-taking coastal areas of Turkey, starkly beautiful salt marshes of Iran, and the cities of Casablanca, Alep, and Cairo to the Occupied Territories of Palestine and a Lebanese prison. Themes explore honor killings (murders), PTSD, pre-Islamic traditions, contract killers and prostitutes, the effect of music on the spirit, Oedipal desires, Islamic fundamentalism, tentative reconciliations between Palestinian and Israeli families, and the power of drama within a prison. There seems to be no danger of running out of wonderful cinematic treasures from the Middle East and North Africa.
