Opening February 12, 7-9 pm
Gallery Hours Wednesday & Saturday, 12-5 and by appointment
Winner of the Eyes Got It! live art judging competition in November, 2010, Texas State BFA Candidate Chloe Yingst exhibits new watercolors & drawings for her first solo show “Missing”.
From the Artist:
Experiences evolve into memories. Memories are bits and pieces of reality combined with embellishments and distorted truths. The important stories, the ones we repeat the most, while not historically accurate paint the clearest pictures of how we see ourselves and how we wish to be seen by others. Fact is one thing, significance another.
This collection of drawings reflects who I am and where I am from through the exploration of memory. These images become snapshots of a broken narrative constructed out of two interwoven stories, my own present experiences reflected in simple drawings of quiet, everyday life and the romantic, mythologized courtship of my parents told through recollections and family photos. This collection investigates not only what is remembered, but what is not. The images, never quite grounded, slip in and out of focus moving between past and present.
-- Chloé Yingst
