Singer, songwriter, and producer Donell Jones bring his soulful and jazzy R&B to the Paramount Theatre for his first ever Austin concert.
Born the son of a gospel singer, Donell Jones immersed himself in music at a young age. Growing up in Chicago’s South Side, he began to fall victim to the temptations of gang culture, but ultimately decided to dedicate himself to music rather than the streets. Jones gained notice as a writer early in his career, penning hits for Usher (“Think of You”), 702 (“Get it Together”), Silk, and Brownstone. In 1996, Jones released his debut album, My Heart, which included the hit cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Knocks Me Off of My Feet”.
Donell Jones established himself as a true R&B hit-maker with the release of his platinum selling second album, Where I Wanna Be, which yielded several top ten hits including the title track (featuring Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes), “U Know What’s Up”, “Shorty (Got Her Eyes On Me)”, and “This Luv”. In 2001, Jones received honors from the American Music Awards for Best Soul/R&B New Entertainer. Jones returned in 2002 with his third album, Life Goes On, and 2006's Journey of a Gemini, both of which reached the top ten. Donell Jones returns to the music scene with some of his best work to date on his new album, Lyrics.
