      I was transported back in time last night to a land that resembled my own childhood. Small town country life, sometimes hard scrabble, with rows of home canned tomatoes, peaches and pears on the cellar shelves. Nature's bounty and our currency thanks to the hard work of my mother in our hot steamy summer kitchen. Garrison held his audience for almost two hours as he thoughtfully recounted the days of his youth and times of his family before he was born. He spared no punches when he related his "youthful indiscretions" and advancement through middle age. The people in the audience around me expressed their amazement, as I did too, of his ability to tell a seamless and engaging story. However, it was not for everyone. The young woman walking behind me on the way to my car said to her date, "That was so boring," so I guess a lone man on an empty stage with a stool and a microphone isn't everyone's cup of tea. Too bad. There is much to be learned from stories. Collapse

      I was transported back in time last night to a land that resembled my own childhood. Small town country life, sometimes hard scrabble, with rows of home canned tomatoes, peaches and pears on the cellar shelves.
