In the tradition of silent films and B-movie science fiction, Electronic Planet Ensemble presents Planet of the Mermaids, an over-the-top multi-media, movie spoof with original live music for 3 weeks only at The VORTEX.

Join Captain Rex Vydor and the crew of the spaceship Odysseus as they explore the mysterious planet of Aquanea. Get ready to encounter the Mer Queen and her beautiful minions on the Planet of the Mermaids.

From the creators of SPACEMAN:DADA:ROBOT and Surfin’ UFO. Electronic Planet Ensemble is Sergio R. Samayoa, David Jewell, Chad Salvata, and Rachel Fuhrer. Planet of the Mermaids stars David Jewell as Captain Rex Vydor. Story by Chad Salvata. Cinematography and Digital Imagery by Sergio R. Samayoa.

Also, in the lobby, an International Mail Art show will display all mail received concerning the themes of Planet of the Mermaids before and during the run of the show.

      A visit to the Vortex is always a treat. The last show I saw there Vampyress was my favorite so far. I did not know what to expect with Planet of the Mermaids. I knew it was in a sense like silent... Expand

      A visit to the Vortex is always a treat. The last show I saw there Vampyress was my favorite so far. I did not know what to expect with Planet of the Mermaids. I knew it was in a sense like silent films and B-movie science fiction films. It was a treat to see the people in the audience who would be on the film that was being accompanied by live music. The material is over the top to be sure but it has some great value and entertaining and genuine acting. Planet of the Mermaids stars David Jewell as Captain Rex Vydor and features Betsy McCann, Andy Agne, Jonathan Blackwell, Jo Beth Henderson, Mindy Rast, Christl Climans, Sharan Shively, Helen Hutka, and Krysta Gonzales. All deserve merit and mention as it is a good showcase of talent. It is a great source of escape, the story that is. The actors use of a small screen area is a marvel and acting with objects that are not seen by the actors at the time. Bravo. Collapse

      As a rule, people seem to either prefer live theater or movies, and I prefer the former. Therefore, it was quite a surprise when I expected to attend a play, but it turned out to be a movie. The only... Expand

      As a rule, people seem to either prefer live theater or movies, and I prefer the former. Therefore, it was quite a surprise when I expected to attend a play, but it turned out to be a movie. The only live performances were the musicians onstage who were not really interacting with the audience. Once I got past that and realized I was in a B movie, I enjoyed the performances. The story was engaging as it revolved around mermaids, and lesbians, with the requisite nudity that is part of the Vortex trademark. The costumes, headpieces and special effects were quite impressive. Betsy McCann and others deliver strong performances. I wish I could have understood more of the lyrics. The lyrics I understood were interesting and enjoyable. Collapse
