TOPDOG/UNDERDOG. Suzan-Lori Parks powerhouse play and 2002 Pulitzer Prize winner. A darkly comic fable of family love and identity that unravels the compelling tale of Lincoln and Booth, two brothers struggling to come out on top in life, but are continuously pulled under by the past. Foretelling a lifetime of sibling rivalry and resentment, gambling and greed, Topdog confronts the reality of how our culture, politics, and history define us. Produced in honor of Black History Month and directed by Lisa Jordan starring Richard Rashad Romeo and McArthur Moore.

      I knew Suzan-Lori Park's play was incredibly powerful and going to the show opening weekend, having seen it before, I expected her words to again be daring, gripping, and emotional. Her themes of family, truth and history were again there, however, what stood out for me this time was the outstanding work from the gifted ensemble of Mac Moore and Richard Romeo. I was blown away! I don't think you will see finer acting done on any Austin stage. Bravo to these talented men! And kudos to a great set and music that was spot on for the production. Go see Topdog! Collapse

      Topdog/Underdog at City Theatre is a compelling portrait of love and loss. Two story of brothers specializing in a sidewalk hustle captivates as it takes you closer and closer to the truth of family betrayal. McArthur Moore and Richard Romeo are fantastic in this powerhouse of a play. A definite must-see! Collapse

      I was blown away by the play Topdog/Underdog. This drama is a Pulitzer Prize winning play, a story of two brothers each dealing with his own and their shared conflicts. The production by The City Theatre was top rate. The performances by Romeo and Moore as brothers Linc and Booth were commendable and noteworthy. I very much enjoyed Topdog/Underdog, and I can't wait to see Romeo and Moore in other roles. Collapse

      I can see why this play swept the Tony awards. It was almost perfectly constructed and the direction was very effective. A two-man play is difficult at best, and requires the concentration of a surgeon. Mr.Romeo and Mr.Moore are excellent in the roles of the hopelessly co-dependent brothers, abandoned by their parents. The story reminded me of the Cain and Abel story, and the Jacob and Esau story, whether it was intentional or not. This is a gritty, in-your-face slice of life play. You will find yourself quickly fascinated with the interplay between the siblings, with no 'dead-air' time. It moves quickly and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Don't miss Topdog/Underdog Collapse
