Mighty, Mighty Improv Summit at Hyde Park Theatre

Local Legends Pgraph and The Frank Mills Share Bill of Unrivaled Awesomeness

On December 5th, a spectacular cross-section of Austin improv will storm the Hyde

Park Theatre stage for an evening of smart, sweet, and subtle comic invention. Hosts

The Glamping Trip will be joined by Parallelogramophonograph and The Frank Mills

in a lineup that?s a perfect introduction to improv for people who?ve been meaning to

check out Austin?s nationally-known scene but have no idea where to start.

(At the same time, even jaded connoisseurs will leap at the chance to see The Frank

Mills and Pgraph -- both past winners of the B. Iden Payne award for Outstanding

Improvisational Ensemble -- on the same bill, an increasingly rare event given their

respective weekly residencies at ColdTowne and The Hideout.)

“People have a lot of good reasons to not go see improv,” says John Ratliff, whose twoman

group The Glamping Trip specializes in the same reality-based scenework as the

evening?s headliners. “They?re afraid it?ll be terrible and awkward to watch, or that even

if it?s good it?ll be nothing but Viagra jokes and parodies of TV commercials. We wanted

to showcase our style of improv, which is more about characters and recognizable

human emotions. In a way, it?s improv for people who think they don?t like improv.”

“Obviously, we want a full house,” says David Hess, the other half of The Glamping Trip,

“but even better than a full house would be a house full of people who?ve never seen

    improv before.”
