The unsinkable Molly Ivins, Austin's no-holds-barred newspaper columnist and best-selling author, is back to tell it like it is in a side-splittingly funny play. A true Texas original, Ivins was a sharp-tongued wit who skewered the "Lege" and the good ol' boys who ran it with her unforgettable humor and wisdom. Written by twin journalist sisters, Margaret and Allison Engel celebrate Molly's courage and tenacity – even when a complacent America wasn't listening — in a play that is nothing short of kick ass.

      Barbara Chisholm does a fantastic job bringing Molly Ivans to life using the “Red Hot Patriot” script as her vehicle. It is essentially a one-woman show that runs an hour and 15 minutes with no intermission. The show highlights Molly Ivan’s personality, her work history, and her personal heroes and anti-heroes. It is a roller coaster of an emotional ride. You will find yourself laughing at times and close to tears at other times. Pride in our fair city is mixed with the embarrassment of the goings-on at the legislature. Thank you, Zachary Scott, for bringing the tribute to one of Austin’s well-known personalities to our fair city. Collapse

      Humor isn’t the first word that comes to mind when I think of Texas politics and journalism. Leave it to Molly Ivins to blend the two. In Zach Scott’s production of Red Hot Patriot, Ivins’ humor takes center stage. Throughout the show, her humorous quips keep the audience laughing. Ivins, played by Barbara Chisholm, found ways to make a tough job fun. Chisholm conveys this tension superbly. The simple set keeps Molly’s humor center stage while the historical visuals enhance the message. This show is fun and serious, clearly demonstrating the anomaly of Texas politics through Ivins’ perspective. As the legislature returns to Austin for another season, this a great time for a good laugh. Collapse
