With Björk, Sigur Rós, and Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland seems to get into our consciousness only through experimental music and volcanic eruptions. But the often austere beauty of the natural setting has attracted the attention of various filmmakers, including homegrown auteurs such as Friðrik Þór Friðriksson and Baltasar Kormákur. This series, suggested by AFS member Vickie Vogel, presents a mixture of humorous and dramatic stories of slackers, murders, corruption, old age, childhood interrupted, love, and revenge for wartime wounds.
