Comedian Patton Oswalt's acerbic and sarcastic comedy covers everything from the pop culture frivolity of comic book super-villains and 1980's hair metal to foreign policy, religion, and American excess.
Patton Oswalt has released several successful comedy albums and specials, including his recent hit Comedy Central special, My Weakness Is Strong. A series regular on Showtime's United States of Tara, he has also appeared as a guest star on The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central and on HBO's Flight of the Conchords.

I've been a fan of Patton Oswalt since I saw a video of his "Christmas Shoes" bit about a year ago. I bought one of his albums, "Werewolves and Lollipops," which was also performed in Austin about 4 years ago. Patton is smart, crude without being classless, and most of all, funny. Generally speaking, I am not a fan of standup comedy, but Patton is an exception. He's one of the few who have the ability to actually make me laugh. He simply has the ability to take a situation and turn it on its heading, revealing it in all its absurdity. One of my favorite of his bits was explaining how he was asked to be the "gay best friend" in a romantic comedy, and how he "might as well paint his face black and start tap-dancing. That's how cliched that role is." The warm-up comedian was quite entertaining as well, if a little unpolished. Check out Patton Oswalt if you haven't already, and I look forward to his return to Austin!

I'm a hard nut to crack when it comes to comedy, rarely do I find stand-up funny enough to elicit a laugh out-loud. My evening at the Paramount with Patton Oswalt had me pleasantly surprised, I laughed......a lot. Oswalt was the perfect mix of crude, genuine and smart - he was crass enough to peak my sick interest but not so much that the crowd became de-sensitized. It's evident that Patton is very comfortable in his own skin; from his easy delivery to the personal yet non deprecating content, the show feels intimate and makes you wonder if this is just the kind of stuff he talks about with friends over dinner.....only it's the funniest damn dinner party I've ever been invited to....
The opening act, Joe somebody or other (man that guy needs a new publicist) and Oswalt made a great pair. Dare I say that I thought Joe, when he was on, was funnier than Oswalt? Given a little more consistency in his content/delivery this guy is on his way to becoming a headliner (if you can find him).
