This story is about the intertwined relationships and long standing sibling rivalries of the four aging Gibbs sisters. Three of them have lived next door to one another for fifty years and the eldest sister lives only a few blocks away. Living so close has taken its toll. The quiet lives these women share with their husbands start to come unhinged when some of them begin to question what to do with their remaining years. Tensions rise when Ida’s 40-year-old son brings his fiancée of 12 years to the house for the first time. A story about growing old, growing up, and letting go.

      Anyone who came a small-town background with extended family close to each other, where everyone was in everyone's lives, or knows someone with such a background, will be able to relate to "Morning's... Expand

      Anyone who came a small-town background with extended family close to each other, where everyone was in everyone's lives, or knows someone with such a background, will be able to relate to "Morning's at Seven." The Swansons live in the house on the right, and the Boltons live in the house on the right. All of the characters deal with aging and the agony of missed opportunities in different ways. Some are in denial, some agonize, and some simply cover it up with platitudes. But when Homer, the Boltons' adult son, finally does something that throws off the routine of coverup and denial, all of the characters are forced to confront some issues and ultimately their lives are changed. It was so good to see Lana Dietrich perform again on stage, not to mention other Austin theatre stalwarts such as Richard Craig, Sam Damon, and Bobbie Oliver. Morning's at Seven is a slice of life drama with a deliberate pace, and it requires patience and attention, so bear that in mind. Collapse
