w/ Filmmaker Doug Block In Attendance.
This is the second in Doug Block’s planned trilogy about his family and himself. He began with 51 BIRCH STREET, which revealed hidden truths about his parents’ 54-year marriage. In THE KIDS GROW UP, he turns his camera on his own marriage and, in particular, his relationship with his daughter, his only child, who will be leaving the nest soon. With a lifetime of footage chronicling Lucy’s life thus far, Block has captured her transitions from infant to child, youngster to teen, and now young woman to woman. But as a parent he also has to grapple with his own feelings as his daughter prepares to leave for college. Sometimes humorous, other times quite moving, especially with his wife’s observations, Block’s highly personal documentary is delightful to watch.
