Arthur Miller’s classic tale of the American theatre. When teenage girls are discovered conjuring spirits, the 17th century town of Salem explodes with accusations of witchcraft. The trials that follow expose a community paralyzed by fear, terror, power and religious extremism. Riveting dialogue, passionate characters and powerful themes make this both a gripping historical play and a timely parable of our society. Starring Iden Payne winners Rachel McGinnis and Angela Loftus. With Gabriel Smith, Craig Kanne, Laura Ray and Brian Villalobos as John Proctor. Directed by Stacey Glazer.       "The Crucible" is always timely in it's examination of the better and worse aspects of human nature. Brian Villalobos, as John Proctor, is outstanding as a man who pays too high a price for redemption. By the end of show you'll pay to see him read his grocery list. Michelle Alexander, Tituba, is someone to watch. Her fear and immediate understanding of what is happening to her are palpable. Great job. Gabriel Smith, as Reverend John Hale, shines in his performance of a man who moves through naive optimism to the reality of the great pain he has helped unleash. Intense and thoughtful. Laura Ray, who plays Mary Warren is unforgettable as a simple girl seduced by the idea of being important and powerful, but too weak to make right her mistakes. Beautiful, individual performances were given by all, but theatre is a team sport and this one delivered. Few weak spots and many strong (too numerous to mention all of them). I highly recommend that you not miss this one. Collapse

      This is an overall outstanding performance, highly recommended. The lead actors, Rachel McGinnis and Brian Villalobos were superb, well supported by a very fine ensemble.

      I thought the play was wonderful and the actors were all great, the only thing it needed was a larger stage but it still played very well.

      Thrilled to see the Renaissance Theatre Co. working with City Theatre on this powerful play. Superb work from Rachel McGinnis and newcomer Brian Villalobos in the lead roles. And a fine ensemble cast - stand outs Gabe Smith and Angela Loftus - with dead-on (no pun intended) period costumes and a stage visual that will haunt you after you leave the theatre. Intense and very spooky. Fine work all around. Collapse

      "The Crucible" is always timely in it's examination of the better and worse aspects of human nature.
