Lit by torchlight, and respectfully performed in the green space of the cemetery, adjacent to the graveyard, this Hamlet promises to be an unforgettable event.

This Hamlet is a production originally staged for Scottish Rite Theatre, and hailed by critics as, “keen, intelligent, entertaining and gripping” further saying, “Go. Go twice.”

Audiences are encouraged to bring blankets or camping chairs to relax on, as they would to an outdoor concert.

A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Boggy Creek Cemetery, and part of the mission of this production is to raise awareness of the deteriorating state of Austin’s cemeteries, and their dire need of support.

      "Hamlet" at Boggy Creek Cemetery is everything a production of "Hamlet" should be but seldom is: crisp, accessible, entertaining. The director and performers were not afraid to bring out the humor in the piece. Making the funny funny does not detract from the drama. The tragedy, if anything, is more effective by comparison. Kudos to all. Collapse

      What better way to see Hamlet than near the Boggy Creek Cemetery. And, what is even more wonderful, part of the proceeds taken from the play will be donated to the Boggy Creek Cemetery. Justin Scalise may be small in stature but his acting ability bold. He was joined by and excellent an cast, Todd Kassens (Ghost of King Hamlet), Patrick Kaufmann (Laertes), Julia Lorenz-Olsen (Ophelia), Brock England (Horatio, Ashley Edward (Gertrude), Andrew Matthews (Claudius), Chuck Ney (Polonius), just to name a few. The play is 3 hours long with a 15 minute intermission. Bring your money to purchase your drinks and snacks. Don’t forget your chairs or blankets. Collapse

      Very few theaters produce Shakespeare with the focus on the beauty of the language. Black Swan Productions nails it. Directing "Hamlet" is tough and Andrew Matthews strings his scenes smoothly using the dark cemetery backdrop as a brilliant contrast to the vivid fast paced events that grip you from the start. This was an excellent presentation with a strong cast. Justin Scalise is a captivating and believable Hamlet, Julia Lorenz as a strong enchanting Ophelia, Chuck Ney a pompous but loving Polonius. These great performances are linked by the under laying perfection of the dramaturge. Jill Swanson made sure each word was understood by the actors and as such translated to the audience by every look and gesture. Adding to the overall production was the many skirmishes and fight scenes choreographed by Toby Minor and the sword/dagger fighting co-choreographed by Toby Minor and Ryan Crowder. Understandable, fast paced, very well acted, in a remarkable setting….well worth the money! Collapse

      "Hamlet in the Cemetery" is in execution every bit as cool as it sounds!! The playing area is lit by torch light so actors appear and disappear into the light as the action continues, giving it a wonderfully eerie feeling. Sure you can hear the road near by and an occasional helicopter flying overhead, but this show is so riveting that it just doesn't matter. This is one of the only Shakespeare productions I've ever seen that every word is perfectly communicated and understood. Props to everyone involved in the text work, because it certainly pays off! Hamlet is an absolute delight and jewel to the Austin theater scene with some of the best performances I've seen. Collapse

The playing area is lit by torch light so actors appear and disappear into the light as the action continues, giving it a wonderfully eerie feeling.
