Long Center Cinema, Austin Lyric Opera and Emerging Pictures introduces the Opera in Cinema series to Austin with a free screening of one of the most popular operas of all times, Verdi’s AIDA. Through this partnership, The Long Center and Austin Lyric Opera look forward to bring Austin magnificent operas from great companies around the world.

To kick-off this collaborative relationship, we will screen the 2006 production of Guiseppe Verdi’s AIDA from Teatro alla Scala of Milan, Italy. Teatro alla Scala is one of the premiere European opera companies. Aida, an Ethiopian princess, is captured and brought into slavery in Egypt. A military commander, Radames, struggles to choose between his love for her and his loyalty to the Pharaoh. To complicate the story further, Radames is loved by the Pharaoh's daughter Amneris, although he does not return her feelings. The plot of AIDA is filled with political intrigue, love, betrayal, passion, and vengeance, and has captivated audiences for generations.

Emerging Pictures has a network of performing and media arts centers and independent art house theaters, tied together through digital technology, enabling the venues to cost-effectively exhibit art films, documentaries, foreign language films, independent cinema and cultural programming. Emerging Pictures is the largest all-digital theater network in the United States.
