For a mature audience, due to language and adult situations.
Based on the popular 1988 film, the musical centers on two con men living on the French Riviera. After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together only to find that this small French town isn't big enough for the two of them. They agree on a bet: the first one to extract $50K from young heiress, Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming, and guessing to the end!

The Palace Theater in Georgetown did it again. They kicked it up a notch with this production of Scoundrels. No doubt about it. The verdict is in. The Palace is The Best Little Playhouse in Austin. Scoundrels is beyond the usual accolades. It is wonderful, great, superlative and all other complimentary adjectives you can think of.The cast performs brilliantly. Andrew Cannata, Patty Rowell, and Joe Penrod, in my mind, have the best voices in Austin. What a combination! They sang and performed their rolls as if they were born to do them. All the performers were excellent. A special shout to dancer, Jesse Kelpsch and actors, Michelle Cheney, Rick Felton, Sara Burke. Last but not least, my thanks and gratitude to the choreographers and director who did a terrific job putting it all together and creating this masterpiece of comedy and intrigue. My favorite scene was Andrew and Patty singing "Love Is My Legs", a real showstopper, and of course the final scene with all three scoundrels.See it

I went with my girlfriend to the Palace
Theater after a recommendation from my
good friend for the matinee show. I
can't say I knew what I was expecting,
since I've never been a big fan of
community theater but WOW. Amazing
performance! The leads were genuine,
believable, and the entire show had an
aura of mystery and substance. Blew us
away. Freddy was fun to watch, Lawrence
was cast perfectly, Muriel and Andre
were heartbreakingly adorable, and
Jolene was a riot.
The choreography was incredible as well.
Engaging without drawing focus, and my
eyes never got bored. The ensemble did a
fantastic job of supplementing the leads
without stealing focus, and they really
should be commended.
Unfortunately, it's definitely a
'mature' play. I'm familiar with the
original, but it's definitely been toned
down. Don't take your kids, but take
anyone else you can! Believe me, you
don't want to miss out on this.

The leads were magnificent...Patti Rowell who played the lead female has an awesome voice and is beyond a doubt beautiful eye candy. Both male leads were terrific, great voices and all 3 leads were fine actors. I laughed throughout. The entire cast was exceptional, the dancers wonderful, as were the musicians. Must not forget the director..congratulations for an unforgettable afternoon. If I lived in Austin, I would never miss a show at this theatre...It was better than some professional theatre endeavors I have attended.

This is definitely a go see if you like your musicals funny and naughty! Andrew Cannata as Freddy is both disgusting and charming. His "Great Big Stuff" is worth the ticket price all by itself! Joe Penrod is suave as Lawrence, and his singing is wonderful. But I do wish he would have "cut loose" a bit more. Michelle Cheney as Muriel and Rick Felkins as Andre are real scene stealers, especially with their balcony scene - hot stuff there!
Patty Rowell can really sing, but I found her to be miscast in the role of Christine. There was something about her in that role that just never clicked for me. Suzanne Orzech makes an admirable Jolene, but she appeared a bit lost when taking on Freddy and Lawrence in "All About Ruprecht."
The choreography was the best I have seen at the Palace. The ensemble was overall very good and they looked like they were having a great time. Plus they sounded terrific. The band was great and really added some pop to the show. Kudos!
