Magic, Mirth and Mayhem... The Baron's Men is pleased to announce our re-telling of Shakespeare's, A Midsummer Night's Dream. This spectacularly beautiful production will include live music and dancing, rich Elizabethan costuming and masks, warring fairy armies, and fabulous magical effects all in a scale replica of the Globe Theater on the shores of Lake Austin.

A dream production in a dream setting, the Baron's Men's staging of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Curtain Theatre was the funniest version of that comedy I have ever seen. I think sometimes theatrical companies are too reverent with even the comedies of Shakespeare but this one was both true to the Bard and a lot of fun. And the setting is idyllic: Lake Austin, trees, hills, the theatre a replica of the great "O" itself. I was entranced and so was the rest of the audience.

I've seen the last five Baron's Men shows, and they have all been excellent. The crowds are growing too, which is great since it means the troupe is succeeding in bringing classical theater back to a modern audience. If any stars are lost in this review, it's only due to occasional noise distractions from nearby Lake Austin, which - while out of the control of the actors - can detract a tiny bit from the experience. Regardless, a night with the Baron's Men means beautiful costumes, beautiful scenery, some truly stellar acting performances, and in the case of a Midsummer Night's Dream, LOTS of laughs (the play-within-a-play at the end had us in stitches). I've brought my 10 yr-old son to three of their shows, and we usually read through a summary beforehand of the plot so he can follow the story more easily - and he LOVES their shows! I'm so grateful to the Baron's Men for giving new life to old texts, and for helping me raise a Shakespeare fan. :)

If you love Shakespeare this production is a must! The acting, costumes and venue transport you to another time and entrap you in the story. Watching Shakespeare in the round gives it a voyeuristic quality as you look down amongst the actors to witness their plights, joys and intimate moments.

A friend and I saw this play Saturday night, and what a treat it was! The creativity of the production was amazing, from the use of the space to the physical and comedic interpretations of the text....

A friend and I saw this play Saturday night, and what a treat it was! The creativity of the production was amazing, from the use of the space to the physical and comedic interpretations of the text. The actors did a fabulous job, and the setting (The Curtain, a replica of the Globe Theatre) made it that much more enthralling. I highly recommend this play as a lovely evening of entertainment. You must go see it!!!

I was completely enthralled. Again, the Baron's Men present a spectacular performance. I'd never seen Titania and Oberon played in such a way that while they are arguing, you can see the sexual attraction between them (usually you just wonder why they're still together). It was mesmerizing. Bottom was so annoying from the beginning that I wanted to throw him off the stage. I almost liked him better in his changed form. The two pairs of young lovers running through the woods with the men loving first one woman, then the other, provided much entertainment. It was well played by all. The costumes and masks, oh sweet stars, they were amazing, and you never knew from whence a fae would appear. And I mustn't forget to mention Puck. You've never seen Puck played this way. Very naughty is Puck, and full of audacity and fun.
I could write much more, but the long and short of it is: it is worth your time, it is worth your money, you will thoroughly enjoy yourself. Go see it.

OH MY! I took my three boys (8, 12 and 15) out of school for the day just to travel to Austin for this play. It was SO well worth it! My youngest (who is a bit ADHD) was so entranced he didn't wiggle...

OH MY! I took my three boys (8, 12 and 15) out of school for the day just to travel to Austin for this play. It was SO well worth it! My youngest (who is a bit ADHD) was so entranced he didn't wiggle a bit for 3/4 of the play! A dark demon fairy made a number of entrances to the stage from our seating area - what a delight! There are no bad seats. This is a historical enactment of Shakespear's play in a real historically built theatre. The acting was so engaging - and you are so close you can see the slightest expression on the actors faces. Costumes and acting well addressed by other fabulous reviews. Can't recommend this event (so much more than just a play) enough. Audience participation encouraged - so much fun! Romance, chivalry, mischief and everything in between. Live music to accompany the acting. Just go. You will not regret it!

Stunning costumes, great acting. All seating is on top of the stage, just as Shakespeare meant it to be. If you want to enjoy Shakespeare authentically, surrounded by nature and in a Globe replica (smaller scale), plus experience wonderful acting, see the show! Be prepared for an evening of joy and laughter. We brought our teenage son and he gave the greatest compliment: Better than any TV show, ever!

We attended the opening night of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by The Baron's Men and had a wonderful time! The comedy and romance were balanced beautifully, the acting and the pace were excellent, the costumes were beautiful and the rude mechanical stole the show. And I would be remiss if I failed to mention The Curtain Theater. If you haven't seen a show at this Globe-style theater you're missing a wonderful experience. We had a wonderful time and look forward to more shows from this lively troupe.

Tonight my friends and I had the pleasure of seeing The Baron's Men play their opening night of Midsummer Night's Dream. To say it was awesome is really an understatement! We arrived early and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Goblin Market, a row of merchants set up selling various related wares. I forgot to pack a drink and snack, and was able to purchase a canned soda and some homemade chocolate (Yum!) for a mere $1.50. We had fantastic seats in the back row of the lower level. The show began on time, and the players all performed with enthusiasm and panache. The costumes and gorgeous masks just blew my mind, wow! The actors playing Puck and Bottom were my favorites! On a side note, for the ladies out there, be prepared....the guys in this production are Hot! This play was hilarious, I can not recommend it enough. Seriously, you NEED to go see this, you will love it! Go with a bunch of friends, or as a date night....its too good not to share :)

We really had a fun, amazing evening.
Don't expect a modern theater. This is outdoors in a replica of the Globe theater just as The Bard intended his plays to be seen.
The players have so many little details that really set the mood and communicate with the audience. We all know the story but you will still get caught up in Helena's plight, Titania's folly and Puck's mischief. You will laugh and laugh and laugh. The players playing players were so good I almost felt embarrassed for them.
Go! Just make the time and go!

A wonderful production that was true to the original Elizabethan era way of putting on a play. Great staging, lovely costumes, wonderful actors (Puck and Bottom were especially delightful) and ingeniously simple sets. The live music was a great treat! My only complaint was that bottom was a bit hard to hear with the donkey head on, but that's a common problem with this particular play when actors are not miked and amplified and it was a beautiful head.
The play by the "bad actors" at the end was especially well done and was funny enough that even the children in the audience were howling. Yes, you read that right, this production was entertaining enough to hold the attention of kids!
Opening night was fantastic. Be sure to catch this production before its run is over!

A dream production in a dream setting, the Baron's Men's staging of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Curtain Theatre was the funniest version of that comedy I have ever seen. I think sometimes theatrical companies are too reverent with even the comedies of Shakespeare but this one was both true to the Bard and a lot of fun. The crowds are growing too, which is great since it means the troupe is succeeding in bringing classical theater back to a modern audience. I was completely enthralled. Again, the Baron's Men present a spectacular performance. Tonight my friends and I had the pleasure of seeing The Baron's Men play their opening night of Midsummer Night's Dream. To say it was awesome is really an understatement! We arrived early and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Goblin Market, a row of merchants set up selling various related wares.
