Born in Nigeria and raised in the Republic of Benin, James began singing in choir at age nine. He discovered his gift for songwriting many years later and miles away when he moved to Rochester, New York to study computer technology in 2001. In 2007 James moved to Austin to pursue music. He briefly worked for Apple in bilingual tech support (fluent in French, English and Igbo, a native language), but was soon able to devote himself completely to music.

Known for his very soulful voice, James just returned from a 18-city tour for his new album, "Live." The Austin Chronicle wrote that "Live" that it "... showcases his evocative, soft tenor with an immediacy only hinted at on his two previous studio efforts." His other recordings include "The Way I Feel" and "Dim The Lights." Other performances include Antones, Stubb's and Momo's locally, a second upcoming appearance at Utica Music Festival in New York, and a 2009 show at a Toronto showcase representing Austin CVB.
