Join Chuck Sklar for a workshop on how to turn your funny ideas and stories into comedy material for the screen. Chuck is an Emmy® Award-winning comedy writer whose credits include “Weekends at the DL,” with D.L. Hughley, the ABC family sitcom “Roommates,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Politically Incorrect” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” He was head writer on “Scratch and Burn” and “The Man Show” in 2001. Sklar also worked on The Chris Rock Show from 1996-2000. Most recently, Chuck wrote the Chris Rock produced documentary Good Hair, which won the Black Reel Award, Gotham Award, Image Award, and Sundance Special Jury Prize for Best Documentary. The screenplay was nominated for a WGA Award. Chuck will discuss writing for sketch comedy, sitcom and late night, as well as the changing landscape of television. Learn how to maximize the comedic potential in such craft elements as character, structure, dialogue, and voice, as well as how to break into the industry and where to market your work.

I learned a lot from the presentation and afterwards, he even took the time to speak with us individually, answering specific business questions!       This workshop was very interesting and there was a great turn out. If you are amused by much of Chuck Sklar's work (Chris Rock, Everybody Hates Chris, and Everybody Loves Raymond) you would feel at... Expand

      This workshop was very interesting and there was a great turn out. If you are amused by much of Chuck Sklar's work (Chris Rock, Everybody Hates Chris, and Everybody Loves Raymond) you would feel at ease and amused by Sklar's presentation and words of wisdom sprinkled among his comedic wit. While I had a few laughs, I left the seminar with a little to be desired. While the information Sklar shared was still valuable based on his experiences on inside, it seemed like information just as readily available from an afternoon spent browsing with google. Much of the seminar was like a diluted stand-up. It wasn't until the end, that I remembered that more than just reviewing Sklar's resume, we were supposed to actually get tips based on his experiences. While some of his experiences and preferences are a little old school, I'm sure there might be a gems here or there that the aspiring comedian/anne could find. Collapse
