      Watching the Golden Dragon Acrobats is always a treat. I agree with Ken Stein who introduced it saying it is the highlight of the Paramount shows every year. I truly enjoy the ritual and ceremony that they employ to introduce their feats of daring and strength, which are balanced by grace and beauty for a truly jaw-dropping experience. Perhaps it is unfair to compare them to Cirque shows, since the Chinese Acrobats have cultivated this art form for over 4,000 years. Thus, they have earned the right to be taken seriously. I prefer not having a Fool performing antics like the Cirque shows do; these acrobats don’t need foolish antics to offset the way they keep the audience on the edge of the seats, because they do enough to make us smile and cause the kids to shriek in amazement. How high can a tower of chairs be built? How many people can fit on a bicycle? What are some other amazing feats that the human body is capable of? Attend a show to learn the answers to all this and more. Collapse

      Will someone please alert the Chinese Olympic Committee?! They obviously are missing a number of talented athletes. Happy escapees, no doubt, from pommel horses, rings, ribbon dances, high jump pits, etc. to the entertainment world. The female performers--Gao, Hou, Jia, Lu, Ma, Shen, Wang, Yang, Zhang, Zhu are not household names HERE. Those monnikers may be as common as Smith, Johnson & Garcia in the USA. But they, and their male counterparts, Cai (x3), Guo (x2), Liu, Niu, Pei, Quiao, Suo, Wang, Xing and Zhang (x2) are Asian artists extraordinaire, probably stars in China. Danny Chang, Creator, Producer & Dir., and Angela Chang, Choreographer and costume designer have crafted an exciting ensemble with their awesome, eye-popping hand dances, juggling of tables, jars, balls, hats; super contortion, sway board balancing, table hoops, flags, "yo-yo", bicycle and teter board balancing. The music, not all Chinese tunes, is unexpectedly as diverse as the acts & costumes, but painfully loud. Collapse

      Twenty-five versatile performers hold you and your children's attention for 2 hours while they amaze with a variety of acts. They are called "acrobats," but they also are jugglers, dancers, contortionists, as well as athletes with superb balancing and skills. Combine the showmanship of Cirque du Soleil and a long ancestry of this type of chinese entertainment and this show is a sure WINNER. If you missed the Sat. performance at the Paramount Theatre downtown, then make plans or go ahead and purchase your tickets for next year. The intimate venue is perfrect for the Golden Dragon acts, and Paramount Exec. Dir. Ken Stein admits that he brings it back year after year because, "It's my favorite show." Judging by the gasps and the whistles and the adult guffaws and the children's delighted squeals, the G-D-A might also become one of your annual favorite events. So tune into the Paramount schedule. It has been "bringing" excitement to Austin for about 100 years! (Thanks you, sponsors) Collapse

      My stars it's more powerful and certainly more entertaining than any one superman--try 20 young agile, strong, and graceful dancing acrobats from China. The Golden Dragons seem to alternate... Expand

      My stars it's more powerful and certainly more entertaining than any one superman--try 20 young agile, strong, and graceful dancing acrobats from China. The Golden Dragons seem to alternate between fanciful juggling, flying hoops, and riding inside of them with more dramatic, outrageous feats of human courage that took my breath away. Seriously, sometimes I was afraid to clap for fear someone may fall from 10 stories of chairs, or miss a beat balancing on one toe shoe on her partner's head. Amazing is just too wimpy of a word for these acts. Really, the talented acrobats combine timing, humor, grace, colorful costumes, daring, strength, and just plain fun on stage. Great for families. Great for humans who want to be proud of all we can do! Collapse

      In the second half of the performance, a young man stacked up at least 6 chairs, doing one or two or three handstands on each one, as the audience gasped he went higher and higher, and when he got to the top everyone was shouting with delight. That was probably the pinnacle, no pun intended, of the performance by eight girls and a dozen or so young men. Each act was differently costumed with different "tricks" of juggling and acrobatics, beautifully paced, no repetition at all. The athleticism, daring, and obvious good will and pleasure among the performers was great. I know of nothing that can create a bond between the U.S. and China better than shows like this. The manager assured us before it started that there would be another troupe from Yunan Province coming in January, so if you've missed this one, go to the next show that comes from China. The audience was full of delighted children; the Paramount is becoming a wonderful center for family enjoyment. Collapse

      Watching the Golden Dragon Acrobats is always a treat. I agree with Ken Stein who introduced it saying it is the highlight of the Paramount shows every year. I truly enjoy the ritual and ceremony that they employ to introduce their feats of daring and strength, which are balanced by grace and beauty for a truly jaw-dropping experience.
