Warning: contains nudity, cigarette smoke, violence, and adult situations. The same critically acclaimed, award winning creative team that brought you last summer’s sold out smash hit KILLER JOE (Nominated for 6 B Iden Payne Awards including Best Comedy) presents BUG by Tracy Letts. We have reunited the entire cast, crew and design team to bring you the most anticipated and thrilling show of the summer. Insects bite, feed, and swarm in BUG by Tracy Letts. BUG, Tracy Letts' followup to KILLER JOE, centers on Agnes (Katie deBuys), a lonely, middle-aged waitress victimized by her abusive ex-husband (Ken Bradley), and tortured by the kidnapping of her child in a supermarket almost ten years ago. After spiralling into a world of alcohol, cocaine, and seedy motel rooms, Peter (Joey Hood) a timid Gulf War veteran and drifter in search of a friend wanders into her life. As their interest in each other grows, so does their paranoid obsession with understanding what –or who – brought them together. Did we mention the infestation of bugs?

(Please note: this is a rewrite of a formerly
submitted review.) Director Mark Pickell has again
assembled the kick-ass cast from last summer's
extended-run production of "Killer Joe" for another
stunning Tracy Letts drama, "Bug." The first act
builds a quirky love story between two lonely
misfits, with a backdrop of menacing domestic
violence and moments of humor. So, going into the
second act, the audience is disarmed as tension
builds around interlocking conspiracies much
bigger and more terrifying than the lead characters'
relationship first implied. Both action and emotions
explode as revelations build on each other.
Performances by the five-member cast are intense
and visceral. Images from this powerful production
have stayed with me for days. Do NOT miss seeing
"Bug."

seen in Austin in a long time. Thank you cast of
Bug for once again truly bringing life Tracy Lett's
work, and taking risks that showed the humanity of
these somewhat eccentric characters. To be able to
share such a story and still keep the humor is a
rare talent and you all captured it! It is a must see!
P.S. the crew is fantastic! WHAT A SCENE CHANGE
AT THE END!!!

In this new material by Letts, I was especially impressed by Katie DeBuys and Joey Hood. DeBuys brings extreme subtlety to Agnes, who is full of passion, nostalgia, and an air of sadness. Agnes feels like a real and actualized person, as does Peter, played by Hood, who plays one of the more awkward and unsettling characters in his canon. Material like this in lesser hands would show characters in a hand-puppet sort of fashion, but Pickell gives us real meat to chew on. I often felt as thought I was seeing 'new images' as I watched the play. Herzog would be proud, as would Letts, who seems to enjoy writing characters with large depth.
Sound design brought new angles into the fold in refreshing ways and it builds all the way to the play's dynamite conclusion. The set was ridiculous in detail, it felt like a Lynch movie. I'll say no mo
