KLRU and REEL WOMEN present a screening and discussion of Austin filmmaker Karen Skloss' new documentary Sunshine. The event begins with a behind-the-sceens discussion featuring Skloss and key producing, shooting and design crew members, as well as the single parents who participated in the film. Following the discussion, KLRU will host a screening of the Independent Lens television debut of Sunshine at 9:00pm.
About Sunshine: In 1975 rural Texas, a local mayor's daughter grapples with an unplanned pregnancy - finally deciding to have her baby in secret before giving her away in a hidden adoption. Twenty-three years later, the adopted child also has an unplanned baby out of wedlock. Sunshine tells the intimate story of this second-generation single mother and her own struggle with the idea of family
There will be an afterparty at The Hole in the Wall featuring some of the bands from the film's soundtrack playing live from 10:00pm-2:00am.
