Before Elvis…before Hank Williams… there was a fiddler from West Texas by the name of Bob Wills. This lively re-telling of Wills career and his contribution to American music has become a Texas audience favorite and stars Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel.

      What a joy to be immersed in songs and remembrances of the life of the King of Western Swing, Bob Wills. The show is energetic and quite humorous. Ray Benson performs with a cast of enormously talented singers and musicians. Fast, flawless fiddling from many: Jason Roberts as Bob Wills, Walt Roberts, Ruby Jane Smith, and the Quebe Sisters. Timothy Curry is a standout with his fabulous voice and presence. Steve Uzzell's characterizations are so fun. Sometimes the show is like an old fashioned variety show. The multilevel set with old signs and set pieces adds to the feeling of the past. A wonderful touch is the concert at the end of the musical, which for this run included an original Texas Playboy, Leon Rausch. Delightful hearing him and the cast perform together(wonderful acoustics at The Long Center). Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel are continuing to honor the music of Bob Wills with their music and this show. Even disco/rock fans like me will have fun. Highly recommended. Collapse
