The following STRING of words comes to mind after enjoying BOWFIRE's excellent performance: Brilliantly Overwhelmingly Wonderfully Fantastic! Inspiring. Riotously Energetic. Other than that what can I say that hasn't been said by other reviewers?! Perhaps that the unique and richly varied music performed by twelve talented artists brought great joy to me, and to the audience-- as evidenced by audience applause, shouts, whistles, and a standing ovation. The encore delighted a grateful audience. A list of what impressed me about this show: the variety of music, the movement of and interaction between the players, the radiant SMILES of the artists, the chemistry between players, the dancing, WOW- the dancing while fiddling and twirling and smiling! After the never-to-be-forgotten performance, I met 5 of the artists in the lobby as they were signing programs & CDs/DVDs. If you missed this amazing show you might check their site to learn about this talented group of record-holding performers, and even order something for yourself. I purchased their DVD to help sustain the flame of pure delight in my heart that was brightened by BOWFIRE. http://www.bowfire.com/

Hey! Canada! Wondering where most of your great fiddlers have gone? Quick! Ask Bowfire Founder and Artistic Dir. Lenny Solomon before the exciting ensemble leaves Austin. Too late! The longtime jazz violinist, prolific writer and arranger gathered up Canadians Linsey Beckett, Kelli Trottier and April Vech – also all exciting step dancers – and Canadian Hall of Fame Fiddler Shane Cook for a rollicking, well-received show by a truly diverse audience Sunday night. With the “wisdom of Solomon,” Lenny mixed them with percussionist Roger Travassos and jazz pianist Bernie Senensky, guitarist Bill Bridges and cellist (daughter?) Wendy Solomon – again, all with deep Canadians roots. He added a healthy dose of highly honored bluegrass fiddler and mandolinist Ray Legere and a dash of the classical and ethnic violin playing of Yugoslavian Bogdan Djukic, now...SURPRISE...a Canadian citizen. “Electrifying?” Yes. Diverse? Absolutely. They mixed classical, jazz, country, rock, old-time, Texas- (more)

My expectations were high for this performance: I was not disappointed. Engaging violin and cello arrangements were skillfully and dramatically showcased by outstanding musical talent. The thrill factor rose exponentially with added choreography, sensational lighting and amazing step dancing by the three femme fiddlers, often as they played. The lovely vocals and strong backup from keyboard, guitar, drums and bass had toes tapping and some audience members squealing with delight. The razzle-dazzle is easily attributable to the fact that each performer is a star in his/her own right. Just check the deep credits. The music was as diverse as the audience make-up, ranging in age from young to mature. The program included all genres from Irish folk music to hard rock. A favorite of mine was “The Reel” as the four male violinists wooed the pretty cellist with competitive playing. Fiddler Linsey Beckett also wowed me with a “Stevie Wonder Medley” that included a vocal & step dance combo.

Get ready to be fired up by an assortment of music
in Bowfire, as ensemble of twelve players with their
instruments: seven violins, a cello, keyboards, a
guitar, a bass and drums. This is an energizing,
upbeat show -- way more music than performance.
The players move throughout the show and break
into some dance numbers along the way. The
constant, ongoing movement keeps the show
entertaining. The music ranges from traditional
Irish jigs to country and classical to modern pop,
like the song, Isn’t She Lovely, by Stevie Wonder.
The audience cheered the loudest as the dancers
finished their tap dance routines -- they were
totally invigorating.
