Climb aboard the all-new CIRQUE DREAMS ILLUMINATION journey, from the creators of Broadway’s groundbreaking hit and only show of its kind to ever perform on Broadway, Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy.
CIRQUE DREAMS ILLUMINATION blends world renowned imagination, critically acclaimed theatrical innovation and breathtaking presentation into a story that illuminates a city of everyday people, workers and pedestrians into feats of disbelief. Marvel as 27 world-class artists illuminate objects, balance on wires, leap structures and redefine flight with entertaining variety, comedy and extraordinary occurrences that reinvent everyday life. Urban acrobatics, dazzling choreography and brilliant illusions are ignited by special effects performed to a stylish original score of jazz, salsa, ballroom, pop and trendy beats from the streets. CIRQUE DREAMS ILLUMINATION outshines its brand notoriety as hailed “Dazzling! A reason to stand up and cheer” by the New York Daily News, and “The grandest circus spectacle east of Vegas” by New York Magazine.

A most amazing and talented group of artists from around the world will keep you spell-bound during this unique one-of-a kind MUST see show. There is so much happening on the stage one can not take it all in-- just like at a real circus! A debonair couple are dancing in formal clothes on one side of the stage. She goes behind a silver cape for about ten seconds and magically appears in a new gown-- more dancing.. she MAGICALLY changes her costume 7 or 8 times! I lost track. Another favorite act is when a strong man is lying on his back and balancing a smaller lean man on his feet.. and he proceeds to flip him in a complete circle TWENTY times in a row. The colorful costumes were amazingly creative and zany. The level of physical skill, stamina and concentration of all the artists is almost beyond belief. Another highlight was when the clown directed 4 audience volunteers in a silent skit. He did so by pantomime and short but direct bursts of his whistle. HILARIOUS. A unique show. GO!

Cirque Dreams Illumination brings the circus, jazz and hip hop onto the theatrical stage. It is fresh and new, as ones experience the circus through a musical theatre production. It is visually stimulating and at times, very exciting. I found myself on the edge of my seat at times and was drawn in by the acrobatics and athleticism of many of the acts. If Cirque Du Solei is responsible for bringing the theatre to the circus, then Cirue Dreams is liable for bringing elements of the circus to the theatre. A stimulating and visually aesthetic performance.

Fast paced and energetic though often the constant motion and changing of costumes and effects detracted rather than enhanced. Definitely was a circus atmosphere. Most of the performers were extremely talented and strong. Especially enjoyed the women contortionists in the spinning cube. The spinning sphere was beautiful. The percussion juggler was unique and the paint can/tube balancer was entertaining. I don't care for clowns; however, the whistling movie director scene with audience participation had some very fun ad lib. The saxophone player throughout was great even with the recorded music. I liked most of the music, but the singer needs to be rethought. Her voice was strident and often unintelligible. I basically tuned her out as background noise. The show was enjoyable enough though often repetitive and chaotic.

Cirque Dreams features men and women at the height of their physical prowess. It is simply amazing what a focused mind and body can accomplish. You will witness feats of strength, balance, and daring, and your jaw will drop in amazement. Luckily, some humor is thrown in: the clown appears several times to break the tension of sitting at the edge of your seat, as you wonder if the performers will actually succeed in their endeavors, or come crashing down. This Cirque seemed a bit more “busy” than others I’ve seen, with performers repeatedly crossing the stage while others are performing their death-defying feats. I enjoyed having the background singer sing in English, so that the lyrics were more understandable than the French that they used to sing in. This Cirque also follows a theme of being very pedestrian, so the performers are dressed like police officers, workmen, stop signs and so on. Come and enjoy fun for the entire family.

As soon as the curtain rises, you are immersed in the world of an inner-city train/subway platform filled with street performers, hotel personnel, a TV reporter and other inhabitants of this magical city. There is never a dull moment here, and you have to watch each part of the stage or risk missing amazing artists. Cirque has it all – foot/hand balancers, aerialists, vaudeville, juggling, musicians, contortionists and a new craze – a popper. “What’s a popper”, you say? – well, you’ll just have to see it for yourself! The artists are from all over the world, and bring with them the expertise in executing such amazing skills, it’s obvious they have been raised in the performance arena. The “director” comes from a family that has been in silent films/vaudeville for more than 200 years! With so much talent, in so many forms, it’s hard to pick a favorite scene or performer – just know that you’ll be thoroughly entertained with Cirque Illumination – don’t miss the opportunity to see it!
