Two Figures brings together two figurative artists with two very different techniques and mediums. Oil painter America Martin is a Colombian-American fine artist based in Los Angeles. America’s favorite landscape is that of the human form, her work is distinguished by a command of line and color, making playful reference to both classic and indigenous art forms. Watercolorist Ali Cavanaugh is moved to portray the human figure in two aspects: body and soul. The dichotomy of the seen and unseen in human existence has been a conceptual cornerstone for most of Ali’s career as a figurative artist. It’s in the moment of hesitation when one moves into the interior space of thought that inspires Ali the most.
