    Community workshops from 3 pm to 5 pm. In conjunction with Maize is Our Life exhibition, Marietta Bernstorff, Director of Mujeres Artistas y el Maiz (MAMAZ) will be hosting a community workshop on native foods, Sunday, April 11 from 3 - 5 pm. Participants are asked to bring recipes from home and photos of personal gardens. The workshop will provide a history of maize in the Americas and explore cultural memories of family food history. A final art piece will be created to be displayed in the exhibit. These workshops are designed to engage the community in an exploration of their cultural memories related to food values and family recipes. MAMAZ Collective has its home base is in Oaxaca, Mexico, and members range from Mexican, United States and Canadian artists, curators, cultural activists, chefs, craftswomen, writers, scientists and biologists, all of whom work together to raise awareness about our local organic/natural food supply and our environmental land issues.

    Following the workshops will be the Sor Juana Women of Achievement Awards Ceremony, from 5 pm to 7 pm in the auditorium. Special guests include local arts curator Claudia Zapata, Austin’s St. Louis Catholic School Choir, and Austin musician Luz Zamora.
